1/72 Female casualties preview

Some time ago, I started musing on further developing the SCW 20mm figures range by giving higher priority to accessory small sets, besides of just making large fighting troops sets. One of the accessory sets I had in mind was a small range of casualty figures, covering most (if not all) the troops types already produced. The first such set I commissioned had to be devoted to dead/injured Militia women --a commission that in my mind compulsorily had to be taken by the same artist who sculpted the Militiawomen, so as to preserve an alike feeling and look.

Well, the matter is that I've been delivered right today some pictures on the ultimate sculpts by Angel Terol; please take a glance on them and feel free to post your comments at regard:

As you can see, set is to comprise 4 figures in different, quite dramatical poses. Two of them are meant to lie dead or unconscious, while the other two are showing a lighter wound level.

After some talk with the sculptor, we agreed the figures to be made with their stand apart, so as to allow him to sculpt the figures entirely from all around. Stands are quite thin actually, and enjoy small fitting holes so as to allow figures easy fixing to them. I guess this will also please you users!

1/72 SCW Nationalist Cavalry Command available

We have now available a new SCW 20mm figures set, the second one devoted to the Nationalist Cavalry. These new figures comprise a complete command group: officer, standard bearer, bugler and horse holder - thus becoming ideal for complementing our first one, that consisted of five horse troopers. Now you just need to gather one 20GEF010 Cavalry Command set and as many 20GEF009 horsemen sets as you need, depending on the unit size you're willing to build.

As you can see in the image above, horses are made of three parts, so as to make the figure slightly lighter, as well as to allow users some variation. Parts do fit quite well IMHO - even a Kingkong-fingered guy as I am will spend no more than a few minutes on each horse! Also, set is complemented by a small paper sheet with a cavalry standard and several banners (for if anyone needs them for building a lancers unit). Here below you can watch the new set of Minairons figures once assembled and primed.

Priced at €15.95 as customary with our figures sets, this new Minairons box is already available at our website - and hopefully soon from our main distributors and retailers too!

New 1/72 SCW Nationalist Cavalry

It's already available a new set of Spanish Civil War 20mm figures --this time the Nationalist Cavalry. What we've just released is the first one in a series of 2 sets --this one including 5 regular troopers along with their horses, while the second one will comprise the Cavalry command group. As you can see below, all figures show different, unique poses, as well as horses also do.

You will note that horses haven't been cast each as a whole, but into three parts (left and right halves, and base), so that you can choose whether to build them using their matching halves (each one identified by a number in the inside), or to try combinations of your own instead. Thanks to this trick, it is always possible to join two troopers boxes and still give them a unique appearance, with no repeated horses.

As said above, this novelty is already available from Minairons website --and hopefully from our main distributors and retailers too!

Nationalist Cavalry ultimate greens

The 1/72 SCW Nationalist Cavalry set we had announced some time ago is ready at last. Here you have some captions on them:

They'll be brought in foundry in the next few days, so it can be reasonably expected to have the new set ready for release by January.

1/72 Nationalist Cavalry

The whole set will consist of 9 horsemen including officer, horn blower and standard bearer. Besides, one of the privates will be shown dismounted and horse holding. Work on them is progressing fast enough as to be reasonably sure to release the new set by late October - November as late.

Lovely & fearsome: 1/72 Militiawomen

We are immensely proud to let you know our long expected 20GEF011 SCW Militiawomen set is ready and available at last. Unlike our previous regular infantries sets, this is a special box comprising not just 13 riflewomen and 2 NCOs, but also a reduced format command set comprising a capitana leader, standard bearer, 2-girls LMG team and a flag sheet with the standards of 3 different female battalions. 19 total figures, 19 poses there.

As our releasing letany uses to say, this new figures boxed set is already available through our website - and hopefully soon from our main stockists and retailers too!

1/72 Militiawomen preview

As commented a few days ago, our next set of SCW 20mm figures will be a Nationalist Command & Weapons box, release of which is currently forecast for June. What is to come next, then?

Just as their male infantrymen equivalents, our upcoming SCW Militiawomen collection is to consist of two boxed sets, the first one comprising 15 first line Militiawomen, and the second one gathering female command, standard bearer and rearguard employees. We'd like you to have a first glance on such first female set greens, and let us know your opinion:

Unlike the rest of our SCW 20mm figures range, that is being sculpted by the experienced Juan Bautista of Xan Miniatures, this particular collection of female figures has been commissioned to Angel Terol --who had a first experience with us at making the 15mm German crewmen for Flakpanzer I ausf. A.

This new set is scheduled for July 2014, just behind the release of Nationalist Command & Weapons.

1/72 Militiawomen sneak peek

When talking about Milicianas, those of you fond of Spanish Civil War gaming are most likely familiar to images like these below:

Such is certainly the most widespread appearance in our minds of those women having volunteered for fighting the military uprising against the Spanish Republic. Despite such look does respond partly to truth, for there actually arose a "revolutionary dress fashion" in Republican Spain following the uprising, it is not less true that these images also responded to the kind of appearance war reporters of the time were seeking. So becoming quite of a sketchy, mystified image.

In the end, one can reasonably understand such kind of overalls dressing in the first weeks of street fighting and turmoil... But, can any believe that such costume would be that widespread once the conflict had stabilized along regular front lines? Or after the hot, sunny Summer had given way to a less comfortable climate?

I'd bet not that many of you are so familiar to this other kind of images:

At the time of projecting a series of Republican Militiawomen, sure that we shouldn't neglect those first captions above –in the end, this is precisely what many are actually expecting us to make. But it is our bid not to restrict ourselves to merely sketchy figures, but to reveal some of the real, quite more assorted thing behind too.

Unlike the whole of our 1/72 SCW figures range, whose sculpting has been entrusted to Juan G. Bautista of Xan Miniatures, this particular series has been commissioned to a different sculptor; one Angel Terol of Madrid town, who is ill-known in wargaming circles still, but holds a wide experience at sculpting larger scale miniatures (mainly for collecting purposes), besides of being an expert at sculpting female body.

Thus Angel and I agreed short time ago a first, testing figure to be sculpted; with the aim to meet size, style and proportions according to the male figures sculpted by Xan. The selected figure would be one of the 2 NCOs that should lead a female fighters set, accordingly to our sets composition settled schema.

Well, this below is the result.

As said above, one of our main concerns regarding this series is to get ensured they will match fully with the whole range Xan is creating. General look is conceived as to show a relative fragility of body if compared to their male mates. Body proportions have been faithfully adapted in correspondance, as well as size (about 1mm shorter than men). I'd say we've fully achieved the goal, IMHO. But, may we know your opinion?
