Just as announced, we have already available the latest Spanish Civil War 20mm miniatures set, the very first samples of which have started to come out from foundry. As you can see by the pictures below, the full set consists of 17 Militiamen figures and one Colt-Browning machine gun model coming in two parts that can be easily assembled.

These look wonderful, Lluis, great poses and sculpting. To be honest though, to my eye, they look more like Ejército Popular (Republican Popular Army) rather than militia. Lots of photos show the dress of the militia in the early days of the war in summer 1936 as the mono overall combined with gorillo sidecap. However from late 1936, as the weather grew cold, a new look emerged described by Orwell as the militia "multiform". In general this comprised of:

1) a waist length cazadora zipper jacket in leather, suede or wool
2) corduroy riding breeches
3) either puttees, knee-gaiters or laced knee-boots
4) various caps such as the knitted pasamontaña, leather peaked cap with fold-down back-flap (sometimes called a "Gorra Durruti"), berets etc. Helmets also but were rare until spring 1937 according to Orwell and by then the Ejército Popular was well established.

I'd afraid you are either wrong or haven't had a close enough look at the miniatures, for most of them are dressed just as you claim to.

1) All militiamen but four are dressing jackets or overalls. Out of the two officers, one is wearing a jacket too, while the other is dressed in leather coat.

2) Trubia helmets were widely used among militiamen in campaign, and this can be attested by as many pictures you would to watch. Nevertheless, we've allowed the group to show an amazing variety of different headgear items including hunting caps similar to the Durruti ones, civilian berets and caps, isabelino-like forage caps, pasamontañas woollen caps and peaked caps for the officers. Many of these were NEVER used among Republican Army ranks. Besides, you should have noted the forage caps are not military, but of the CNT_FAI militia type (no side piping there, or fore tassels).

3)We have deliberately omitted the dressing & stowage items own to some especially well-equipped Anarchist columns such as the Durruti one. These are generic militiamen, Durruti troops will be a different set of figures.

4) Puttees or gaiters are again a feature quite specific to the Anarchist columns above, or the so-called Catalan Army organized in the Front of Aragon by the Antifascist Militias Committee of Catalonia, but you'll hardly see such items in Southern Spain, or around Madrid. Again, we he deviced here a generic type of militia, because the time for more specific units hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the further information, Lluis! Great to hear about future planned sets too. As a suggestion, how about including separate alternate heads in sets like this one? I know you make some separate heads already which is a great idea.

Best wishes,
Pete
