After a lot of time spent thinking around (years, actually!), this month I've finally taken the decision to start a new range of War of the Spanish Succession 1/72 figures, dedicated mainly to the too often forgotten peninsular armies; not just Philip d'Anjou's army, but also that one of Charles Habsburg - hopefully extending with time to Portuguese troops too, depending on this new range rate of success.
After some talk with other knowledgeable professionals, I've commissioned this new range to the well-known sculptor Leonid Primachenko, who has already excelled at sculpting horse & musket figures for other manufacturers. If taking a look at the pictures in this post, I believe you'll agree this is going to be a very promising range!
First figures commissioned are the couple of Austro-Catalan Mountain Fusiliers or Miquelets that you can see in pictures, that will be accompanied by another two figures to form a first set of 4 skirmishing fusiliers. A further set to follow shortly afterwards will comprise a Miquelets officer and horn blower.
Figures are to be around 20-21mm tall from feet to eyebrows, so 1/72 scale compatible. Here above you can see how does one of our figures compare to a GNW musketeer from Zvezda.

These look very interesting. I usually paint the next scale larger but this is a figure we have been waiting for for years. I'll be interested to know what plans you have to extend the range and how much this is just testing the water to see if they will sell. Some larger pictures would be nice but good luck with these.

Kind of a tricky question, Stephen. Eventual plans would extend to covering both sides' Infantry of the Line, Grenadiers, Guard, Heavy Horse and Dragoons, Artillery and High command - and a range schema was actually discussed with the sculptor.
However, it's also obvious that a first trial has to be given, before launching (and paying for!!) an entirely new range whose eventual success nobody knows in advance.
This is why I've chosen as such trial the most unique, distinctive and original troop type among those eventually forming the projected range. It's sales that rule in the end, I can only do my best to make it as tasty as possible!
Thank you. That's fully understandable. I wish the project well. It's those unique troop types that are so resonant of the era. My father was always hoping that someone would make the miqueletes and now maybe it's going to happen. I shall follow the progress of this range with interest.
